Who is Fanconi Anaemia Australia?

Fanconi Anaemia Australia provides a variety of support services to families suffering Fanconi Anaemia, in addition to providing broad-based education doctors, carers, families and the general public. Fanconi Anaemia Australia was first established in February 2006 by Alan Howard-Jones as an Incorporated Association (FA Australia Incorporated). Alan's wife Charisse (now deceased) was a sufferer of Fanconi Anaemia, and following their attendance at Camp Sunshine in Maine USA in 2005, Alan founded the organisation to provide support to Australian families and to assist in increasing public awareness of the disorder. The organisation was restructured in 2007 as a Public company called Fanconi Anaemia Australia Ltd

Camp Sunshine 2011

For those who were able to make it across to the U.S.A. for camp sunshine this year would have experienced an amazing time with the many FAmilies that attended.  My son and I have just returned from the States (Friday 16th) after an amazing week at camp, followed by a whirlwind holiday around the U.S.

We will definitely be attending next year again, and I encourage everyone to consider the same.  Of course it is an expensive exercise but well worth the effort if at all possible.  Remember that the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund (FARF) offer a travel scholarship to families, particularly first-timers or those facing significant medical decisions.

We here at Fanconi Anaemia Australia will also be working on some grant applications ready for next year to hopefully support those that wish to attend financially.  I cant promise anything, but will keep you posted on progress.

Be sure to let me know if you would be interested in this.

Take care, and keep well!

Captain Courageous is working in partnership with The Hanson Institute to raise funds to assist with research into Bone Marrow Failure Diseases, and hopefully a potential cure for children suffering from these conditions. They are setting up a 3-4 year Research project into the causes of these debilitating diseases – to do this they need to raise AU$300,000.

If you would like to support this project, please download a brochure

Fanconi camp 2010

We regret to announce that will not be able to hold Fanconi Camp for 2010. Due to a break down in communication with the camp providers, it has gone too late in organising. We will begin planning for 2011, and this time possibly looking for alternative venues and providers outside of South Australia.

We apologise for the disappointment, as we know many were looking forward to attending camp again this year. Keep watch on this site for updates.
