Who is Fanconi Anaemia Australia?

Fanconi Anaemia Australia provides a variety of support services to families suffering Fanconi Anaemia, in addition to providing broad-based education doctors, carers, families and the general public. Fanconi Anaemia Australia was first established in February 2006 by Alan Howard-Jones as an Incorporated Association (FA Australia Incorporated). Alan's wife Charisse (now deceased) was a sufferer of Fanconi Anaemia, and following their attendance at Camp Sunshine in Maine USA in 2005, Alan founded the organisation to provide support to Australian families and to assist in increasing public awareness of the disorder. The organisation was restructured in 2007 as a Public company called Fanconi Anaemia Australia Ltd

Fanconi Camp

Each year a camp is held for patients suffering Fanconi Anaemia and their families. The camp is provided free of charge and patients are invited from around Australia and as far as New Zealand.

Our second annual Fanconi Anaemia camp was held in September 2009, with next years camp yet to be confirmed.  Camps are hosted by Edmund Rice Camps SA Inc, and each year expect a bigger and better camp than the previous year with more new families attending from around the country and from New Zealand.

Families and friends interested in attending the camp must nominate their interest by visiting the camp website www.fanconicamp.org.au; or by calling Fanconi Anaemia Australia on 1300 350 091.

The camp is provided free of charge and we hope to include travel costs for interstate families.  Even if you think you cannot afford to travel to Adelaide, please contact our offices as we may be able to organize a travel grant for your family.  Last year four interstate families attended the camp and their return airfares were paid in full thanks to travel sponsorship.
